Opening Post

The idea of biking across the country has been in the back of my head for a while, now it's looking like that idea might become a reality this summer. The current plan is to leave Colorado right around the end of finals week to go visit with my dad and stepmom back in Georgia for a few days, then head north to visit with a bunch of friends for a few days at TrailDays in Damascus, VA, then somehow get out to Yorktown, VA. Hopefully, by that point my bike will have arrived in Yorktown by mail, so I'll pick it up, put it together, and head west!

It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle. ~Ernest Hemingway
